Technical Tips
Lamp Failure and Analysis
- Detached filament
filaments that are detached internally that exhibit balls of molten tungsten at the point of the break, show signs of over voltage operation
- Shattered filaments
larger filament designs with multiple coils that exhibit shattered filaments, show signs of excessive vibration or shock
- Bubbling Quartz
indicates over cooling or foreign material has fallen upon the surface
- Broken Quartz
if quartz is broken away from the base, can indicate poor installation or that socket needs replacing
- Premature failures
do not touch quartz bulbs with bare fingers. The quartz surface can be exposed to the salts and oils in the hand. This will lead to premature lamp failures from sagging glass to lamp bursting.
